We come over with our pockets bulging with money and possessions. While we find Thailand cheap in places, our money lets the girls live the life they can only dream of back home. It is said that 4 million Thais only earn 1000 Baht per month, while the majority earn 2,000 to 4,000 Baht. We have several 1,000 Baht notes in our wallet and when they are spent, we hit the ATM for more. When I was short of money one evening, a girl said, "Don't worry! You can go ATM". I had to explain that an ATM needs money in YOUR bank to get it out. She did not last as a friend.

They are not used to budgeting with large amounts of money. "You have it, you spend it, you borrow money for food next day, you pay back when money come". They are acutely aware that this may be the last money you give them, so enjoy life now as tomorrow they die in a motorbike accident and come back as a frog, so money no good next week.

Sadly, some seem to get used to big money very quickly, but not gained due to their skill factor. A Doctor or Bank Manager earns less than an average Agogo girl. A girl who earned 100-150 Baht a day in the rice fields, will the next week come down to Pattaya and demand 15-20,000 Baht a month from her farang lover as a holding fee when he goes home. One girl said she wants 20,000 Baht a WEEK to stay with Farang. My friend felt her hand and said "Oh, I see you work on farm!". She stormed off, knowing what he meant.

Once she has gone from Farm Girl to Superstar on a retainer, and she realised how easy it was, the greed factor creeps in. Some of the so called "Sponsored Girls" then get a taste for money, so prowl as a freelancer, get a job in a popular bar (ie: full of punters) away from the front line. The signs are when you want to take their photo, the shy away, claiming their Aunt has an internet cafe in Nakhon Nowhere and may see her photo, when she claims to be a receptionist in a 5 Star Hotel.

Having said that, I know a few girls that are bored at home, so stay around town near their new (female friends) and do not play around, and are happy to introduce teir boyfriend round to her friends without fear of exposure.
